The Emory & Henry College Men’s Swimming Team closed out the dual meet portion of their seasons on Saturday afternoon with a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchups at Sweet Briar College, Hampden-Sydney.  It all started when Sophomore Wilson Naff earned three wins on the day, taking the 200-meter freestyle (2:11.38), 100-meter butterfly (1:04.22) and the 100-meter backstroke (1:04.11). Following this, Sophomore Nick Barr had a lot to do to help back-u his teammate’s performance. He ended up coming in second in the 50-meter freestyle, turning in a time of :30.02, and was third in the 100-meter freestyle (1:07.13) which helped to solidify the team’s position. Finally, Sophomore Evan Prillhart stepped up and swam in the 100-meter freestyle, 200-meter freestyle and 100-meter breaststroke for E&H but placed last in all three letting the team’s good score slip slightly. This meant that the men fell by a 139-39 score to Hampden-Sydney College once all was added up. This was all just a warm up for the big three-day long meet this weekend. Here, Emory & Henry will compete at the 2018 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships on the weekend of Friday, February 9 through Sunday, February 11. The championship meet will take place at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.

I spoke to Nick Barr and Wilson Naff regarding this upcoming meet and both seemed very excited for the challenge. Nick Barr stated. That “after the long season I’m just really looking forward to giving it my all on this final meet and trying to place as high as I can for the other boys”. He also added, “I may have not placed exactly where I know I can place every time but I believe that all my hard work and effort over the past few months should really stand me in good stead come Friday. Oh, and Go Wasps let’s all get our stingers up this weekend for the swim team!”

Wilson Naff gave a similar summary of his thoughts and feelings on the up and coming event. He stated, “I really can’t wait to show people what I can do this for this final weekend meet. I love swimming, and I think that the new program that the coach has got us on has really helped me to prepare as much as I can for this final push”. He finished by saying “I’m willing to give everything! Well, maybe not everything…like an organ or money, but you know what I mean!”The Wasps next meet will be in Greensboro.
