Coach Jaclyn Dickens, a 1999 graduate of Emory & Henry College. Coach Dickens served 4 years on the Women’s basketball team, as well as 3 years on the tennis team, and 1 on the volleyball team. Dickens returned to her Alma Mater after head coaching at Virginia Intermont for eight years.
“I love it here, but more than that I came back because I was looking for a coaching opportunity after Virginia Intermont closed, so when it closed down I was unsure what I was going to do next, so I ended up teaching at Oak Hill not coaching but I knew that I couldn’t not coach, but Coach Crutchfield gave me a call as soon as there was an opening and right away I knew it was the right fit” said Dickens.
Coming into her third year coaching for the Wasps Coach Dickens has high expectations for the remainder of this season, as well as the seasons in the future.
“We definitely want to win out and win in ODAC so we can go to the National tournament, there are a couple of other good teams that are going to stand in our way, but our goal is to finish strong, and continue to keep getting better as a team,” Dickens said.
The Women’s Basketball team is 4th in the conference with a 14-7 overall record. Coach Dickens says, “I have had a lot of favorite teams, but this group doesn’t have one that aggravates me, I never dread getting up and going to work or hanging out with them, they’re respectful, they’re coachable, they’re a special group, they’re fun to be around and winning makes it even more fun.”
The Women’s Basketball team is set to tip off at 7pm, Wednesday, January 31st against Roanoke in the King Center.
