The Emory & Henry College Women’s swim team capped off their Old Dominion Athletic Conference schedule with a perfect 8-0 finish. The Wasps traveled to Sweet Briar, Virginia and defeated the Vixens 120-62.
The Wasps had many standout performances both team and individual. Sophomore Taylor Simmons, senior Bri Chessock, senior Holly Roth, and sophomore Savannah Scarbrough opened the day with a win in the 200 meter medley relay with a time of 2:19.50.
Sarah Helfert won the 800- meter freestyle with a time of 10:39.54. Helfert also finished second in the 100-meter backstroke. In the 50 -meter freestyle, senior Mackenzie Lingle won with a blazing time of :29.53. However, freshman Lauren Trotter finished third :33.31.
Scarbrough and Kelsey Jones finished one and two in the 200-meter individual medley with impressive time of 2:43.54 and 2:54.24. Chessock won by a jaw dropping 20 seconds in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:12.04. The Wasps racked up another first and second finish in the 100-meter freestyle, with Lingle and Trotter finishing with times of 1:06.28 and 1:13.58.
Another freshman Brittany Archer had a nice finish in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 5:14.22. Emory & Henry will next compete at the 2018 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships on the weekend of Friday, February 9 through Sunday, February 11. The championship meet will take place at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
