The Emory & Henry Cross Country teams look to find a place at Nationals with a solid performance this week. The Wasps Cross Country teams have been working all season for this moment, all the time, effort, and sweat that they have put in is all about this moment.
The Cross Country teams prepare for the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region Championship this Saturday. The Women have had a pretty great season with newcomer Alette McGuire leading the way. McGuire the freshman out of Chesapeake, VA has looked very great breaking two Wasps Cross Country records this season.
The last race at the ODAC Championships, the women placed 8th out of 12 teams at the competition. With Alette McGuire and Sophomore Erica Grupp leading the way for the Wasps you have to be excited to see what is in store this Saturday.
The Men have also had a breakout season, as Junior Austin Tolbert has now broken the 6k and the 8k school record. Tolbert has also won the ODAC Cross Country Runner of the Week this year and also was announced 2nd team All-ODAc, Austin is just the second Wasps to ever do so. The men come into the race on Saturday looking to prove that they deserve to go to nationals. For the seniors Buck Kirtland, Michael LoGrande and Caleb Simpson, to go to nationals would make them very happy and proud.
The men and women both have had remarkable seasons to say the least, but if for both teams to make it to nationals would put a big smile on second year head coach Ian Layne’s face. After taking a week off to prepare for the competition on Saturday the Wasps look to come out with full force to place and go to nationals. Even if the Wasps don’t make it to Nationals Coach Layne has to be happy and proud at what the two programs have accomplished this season. Don’t expect anything but the very best from the men and women this Saturday at Sectionals.
