The Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Team finished up their season with senior day on Sunday October 29. The Wasps faced Shenandoah University on a very chilly, and snowy afternoon.
The Wasps came into the game with a record of 4-11-1, and 3-5-1 in the conference. The Hornets came into the game with a record of 9-8 and a conference record of 4-5. The winner of this game earned a spot in the conference tournament.
The Wasps were shutout in the contest and left the field with a defeat of 3-0. Sophomore Greyson Barrs lead the Wasps with two shots and Kayla Wright had 14 saves.
An emotional day for Emory & Henry as they are losing six seniors. First, Kayla Wright has been the starting goaltender for the Wasps for almost all 4 years, playing in 53 games starting in 41. She had 288 saves, and four shutouts. April Yopp has played defender and midfielder, playing in 67 games and started in 63.
Madison Vaughn played defender, playing in 67 games starting in 57. Clarissa Martin played mostly defender, playing in 55 games starting in 40. Robbi Rodemann played mostly midfielder for the wasps and played in 50 games starting in 29. Finally, Christina Ameen played mostly midfielder and forward for the wasps playing in 69 and starting in 38.
Sophomore Brittany Singleton said “ I am gonna miss their friendship and leadership on and off the field. They are more like family than teammates, we can go to them for anything.”
The Wasps now look forward to when they get back into their spring season.
