The Emory & Hen-ry Women’s Tennis team started off their fall season on Saturday October 23rd. While the Wasps aren’t currently in season, they are able to get a couple matches in the off season.
The Wasps were hosted by Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista, Virginia. The Wasps were unfortunately defeated by a score of 8-1.
The Emory & Henry Women also acquired the new coach Christine Johnston. After losing three seniors off the team, all- ODAC selection Katie Meade is now in the number one spot for the Wasps. The Wasps, led by Meade, didn’t play their best tennis after Meade lost her match 6-2, 6-2.
Senior Kala Curtis was also defeated in two sets losing 6-0, 6-0. Junior Kaitlyn Sheaves got a pair of games but also fell 6-1, 6- 1.
Junior Tessa Johnston who formerly and currently still plays on the Emory & Henry Basketball team put up a valiant effort in her first colligate tennis match but ended up falling 6-2, 7-5.
Junior Bri Pierce was able to pick up the crucial win for Emory & Henry as she defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-1.
Sophomore Kelsey Holt was also fell in her match losing a score of 6-2, 6-0.
The Wasps look to bounce back in their only other match of their fall season against Averett University at home on October 14th. The matches will start at 1 PM.
Pierce was also voted as the Wasp of the Week by the Emory & Henry athletic department.
