The Emory & Henry Volleyball team had a pretty good week last week, as they split a pair of games. Their first game was against conference foe Hollins University at Hollins, and the Wasps took down HU 3-1.
Hollins got out to a quick 1-0 lead, as the won the first set 25-23. In that first set, Emory & Henry got out to a quick 7-1 lead, however, Hollins tied the set up at 12. The two teams battled it out to a 23-23 tie. However, Hollins took the next two points to win the first set.
However, the next three sets were much more favor- able for the Wasps, as they won the second set 25-16, the third set 25-14, and the fourth set 25-20. In the second set, senior Ali Singleton and junior Tori led the way in the set with 5 kills. In the third set, the Wasps would take a 6-2 lead, and then score the final 11 points in the set, while the fourth set was pretty competitive.
Holmberg and Singleton both led the way with kills in the Hollins match with 15, while Singleton also had 11 digs for a double- double in the game. With that, Emory & Henry improved to 4-9, and 2-2 in ODAC play, while HU fell to 5-8, and 0-4 in ODAC play.
The Wasps other game that week was against at Southern Virginia. This match was not as favorable for the Wasps, as they fell short to the Knights by a margin of 3-0. The first set was competitive, as Emory & Henry had an 18-15 lead, before losing the set by a score of 25- 20. The Second and third sets were not as competitive as the first ones. The Knights got out to a quick 7-1 lead in the second set, as they cruised by Emory & Henry 25-7 in set number two. In the third set, the Knights finished on an 11-5 run to win it 25-12.
Ali Singleton led the way with 6 kills, while Sam McCauley and Lauren Coolidge both led the way with 8 digs. After the game, the Wasps fell to 4-10, but still 2-2 in ODAC play, while the knights improved to 8-4.
Even though the Wasps have a losing record, there are still plenty of matches to be played in the season. They still have plenty of key ODAC games coming up. Their next ODAC match will take place against Eastern Mennonite on September 28th, as the Royals will come into the match at 3-10, and 1-3 in ODAC play.
