On Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17, the Emory & Henry Women’s Golf team competed in their first ever competition. The Wasps traveled to Front Royal, VA at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. The Greene Turtle Invitational was hosted by Shenandoah University. While Emory & Henry was competing in their first competition, they came in and fit right in to the ODAC Women’s Golf program.
To start the Wasps off, on day one, Sophomore Ashley Underwood shot a (+28) to lead the team after the first day while first-year Sierra Giramma shot at (+32) to place 33rd after day one. Chandler Thomas and Junior Laura Mister also shot well on the first day of competition of the new Emory & Henry Women’s golf team. After the second day, Underwood finished the second day, and the tournament with a score of (212; +68). Underwood finished in first for the Wasps, while Giramma shot a (215; +71) and finished second both days. Thomas finished with a score of (218;+74), but finished first for the Wasps on day two. Lastly, Mister was also able to cut her first day score by 23 strokes and kept the Wasps in seventh place to finish the tournament of eleven teams. While Bridgewater College took the trophy, they were lead by their National DIII champion Christina Herbert and she finished even for the tournament. The Emory & Henry Women’s golf team will be back in action on the 23 and 24 of September in the Bridgewater Fall Invitational.
