Emory & Henry’s Equestrian team hit the ground running at their first event, The Preseason Tournament of Champions last Saturday. The Wasps traveled to the Randolph Riding Center in Lynchburg, Virginia, bringing Team Blue and Team Gold to represent E&H. Although Team Blue and Team Gold finished, 11th and 12th, the riders still gave good performances is their respective events
For Team Blue, there were many admirable performances including freshman Allison Dayley, who won the class in Novice Equitation on the Flat. Junior Francisco Caba-Guil finished fourth in Open Equitation Over Fences and took seventh in Open Flat. Sophomore Madison McKinsey finished fourth in Intermediate Over Fences and Sophomore Bobbie Jo Adsit finished sixth in Intermediate on the Flat, while also bringing home fifth in Novice Fences. Sophomore Emily Trice finished in Low Medals, where she competed. Sophomores Virginia Jahoda and Cara Brooks both finished sixth in Walk/Trot Equitation and Walk/Trot/Canter Equitation. Team Blue ended the event by finishing 11th overall.
For Team Gold, senior Jane Mikusa took home the silver in Intermediate on the Flat and finished fifth in Novice Fences. Senior Sydney Cassady finished seventh on Open over Fences while senior Eli Worth-Jones took home a fourth place finish in Novice Equitation on the Flat and a third place finish as Team Gold’s representative in Low Medals. Sophomore Maddie Bonner finished sixth in Open on the Flat and was seventh in Intermediate Fences. Sophomores Catherine Hill and Jordan Pennington finished fourth in Walk/Trot/Canter and seventh in Walk/Trot. Team Gold placed 12th overall right behind Team Blue.
Savannah College of Art & Design’s team took home the victory and won the season opening event and had Tess Mroczka win the Low medals. The next Tournament of Champions Series event is Saturday, December 2 in Long Valley New Jersey, but Emory & Henry’s next event will be on Sunday, September 24 when the IDA team travels to Virginia Tech to open its season.
