On Friday, September 1, the Wasps took on the Averett Cougars in Danville, VA. Emory & Henry and Averett University played for almost 100 minutes before the deadlock was broken and Emily Meador scored in the 96th minute on an assist from Christine Harris, with Averett picking up the victory over the Wasps.

The Wasps fought hard and senior goal-keeper Kayla Wright had 10 saves to keep Emory & Henry in the game. Freshman Kelci Horner lead the Wasps with three shots on goal, while senior Christina Ameen added a pair of shots.

Averett lead the game in shots and corners, the wasps defense was able to catch the cougars offsides four times.

While the Wasps were projected 11th in the preseason Coaches poll, Emory & Henry looks to redeem themselves as they take on NAIA opponent Milligan College on Wednesday, September 6.
