While the Eric McClure car was at the baseball game this weekend, the softball team traveled up to Harrisonburg to play a two-game series with Eastern Mennonite on the 25.
This series was the first ODAC game for the Wasps, while the Royals were 0-2 heading into the series, as they fell short twice to Randolph Macon. Each side was able to dual out a victory, as both sides won one game each in this series.
In the first game, E&H took down the Royals 2-1. This was the first ODAC win of the year for the Wasps. Eastern Mennonite struck first in the second inning, as infielder Savanah Jones tripled to right field, as Sydney Reath scored the Royals only run of the game. The Wasps scored their first run of the game in the third inning, as first-year Alex Thomas singled to right field, as senior Danielle Loving scored on a fielding error by Savanah Jones.
The Wasps scored the game winning run in the top of the seventh inning, as junior Caley Hodge doubled to center field, and junior Leah Elswick scored on another fielding error by Savanah Jones. The winning pitcher from E&H was junior Emily Kendrick, she improved to 7-3 on the year. The losing pitcher from Eastern Mennonite was Lauren Seale, as she fell to 5-2 on the season.
The second game was a little more favorable for the Royals, as they defeated E&H 6-2. The Royals scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, as Sydney Reath reached first base on an error, as Mariah Foltz crossed home plate to make it 1-0. The Wasps would even the game in the second inning, as Loving hit a home run to center field to even the score at one apiece.
The Royals would fire back in the third inning though, as Sydney Reath hit a two-run homerun into left field, as Seale scored as well, to make the game 3-1 EMU. In the fourth inning, Loving hit an RBI single, as Hodge rounded home plate to cut the lead to 3-2. However, EMU had a strong bottom of the fourth as they scored three times in the inning to take a 6-2 lead, and hold on to it to finish the game.
The Royals played two more games the next day, and were swept by Guilford. The Wasps move to 15-5 on the year, and 1-1 in ODAC, and will travel to Randolph for a two-game series on the 29 of March.
