Emory & Henry Racecar Visits E&H

On a nice warm Saturday afternoon, Emory & Henry Baseball team hosted a double header against Eastern Mennonite. But it just wasn’t the baseball game that was going on, but much more. Emory & Henry alumni Eric McClure of McClure racing came by to watch the game, and also brought his #39 car which will sponsor WEHC 90.7 on it.

If that wasn’t enough to bring fans out, WEHC, who sponsored the event, decided they would grill and give out free hot dogs. Emory & Henry mascot was also in attendance as well as the Bristol Motor Speedway Mascots, Bump and Run. This gave kids an opportunity to not only have their picture taken next to the racecar, but also with the mascots as well.Teresa Keller, who is the general manager at WEHC, talked about how big of a deal it was to have the car there. “Everybody was getting their pictures with the car, even fans from Eastern Mennonite were coming over to look at the car.” Keller also spoke about the crowd that the car attracted, “There were people coming from Bristol and other places, driving all the way up here to watch the game and see the car.”

The day went very well for Wasps fans, which not only enjoyed viewing and having their pictures taking with the car, but also got to enjoy watching their team take both games against Eastern Mennonite. E&H would take the first game in a barnburner thanks in part to a walk-off single by sophomore third baseman Eli Straw. E&H would then take care of business pretty handily in the second game, taking care of the Royals by a final score of 8-3. Before the second game started, there was a little treat for the fans of E&H as McClure threw out the first pitch of the second game with all three mascots on the field to accompany him.

The E&H car will be in action on April 22, at Bristol Motor Speedway, and will be driven by 22 year old Chad Finchum. All proceeds from the race will be donated to the radio station. Also if you would like the chance to win free tickets for the race then go to the radio stations website, which is located under the schools website ehc.edu.
