The Emory & Henry men’s tennis team hosted Ohio Northern on Sunday March 5th. Unfortunately for the Wasps, it was Ohio Northern that came out on top 7-2.
In the singles matches, the Wasps won their first two matches. Senior John Dalton Ferguson defeated Tim Kargl of Ohio Northern 7-5, 6-3 at the one spot. This was Ferguson’s third straight victory in singles matches. At the second spot senior Kamil Aliev defeated ONU’s Andrew Garcia 6-3, 6-0. In the number three match, David Hayman of ONU defeated senior Luke Funkhouser 6-0, 6-0. First-year Grayson McCarthy fell to Jake Abbott of ONU 6-0, 6-1 in the number four match. In the fifth singles match, first-year Dalton Shipley was defeated by ONU Tyler Frantz 6-2, 6-2.
In the sixth and final singles match, Cody Hurly of ONU defeated sophomore Andrew McClung 6-2, 6-1.
In the doubles matches, ONU went on to sweep all three matches.
This will be the last time ONU and E&H will meet on the tennis court this year. ONU improved to 5-1 on the year with the win.
For the Wasps, they fell to 1-4, and have their next game on the road at Washington and Lee on March, 10. The Generals, who are picked to win ODAC, are 5-2 on the year, and they are coming off a 5-4 loss to Sewanee.
