#16 W&L beats E&H

The Emory & Henry women’s tennis team traveled to Lexington to play in their first ODAC match for the Wasps. They faced off against the 16th best team in the country, Washington & Lee. The Generals proved that they deserved to be nationally ranked as they easily handled the Wasps 9-0.

It was a tough day for the Wasps, as the Generals played well in all of their matches. W&L swept both the singles matches and doubles matches. In the first singles match, Brooke Donnelly of W&L defeated senior Lauren Riner 6-0, 6-0. In the second match, W&L’s Melinda Kauffman defeated senior Ana-Belen Gomez 6-0, 6-0. The third match was won by Anna Kerynin of W&L, she defeated senior Savanah Summers 6-1, 6-0. Emily Kochard of W&L won the forth match, she beat junior Kayla Curtis 6-1, 6-0. The fifth match was won by W&L’s Rachel Hicks, who defeated junior Bri Pierce 6-0, 6-0. The final singles match was won by DeeDee Aeschliman of W&L, she beat first-year Kelsey Holt 6-0, 6-0.

he Generals played just as well in doubles matches as they did in singles matches. The W&L team of Michelle Fleenor/Lily Horsley defeated Lauren Riner/Savanna Summers 8-0 in the first match.

The second doubles match was won by Mary Hampton McNeal/Hannah Archer of W&L, they defeated Ana-Belen-Gomez/Kala Curtis 8-1. The third and final doubles match was won by Maddie Hutchins/Gabby More, they defeated Bri Pierce/Kelsey Holt 8-0.

For the Generals, they improved to 8-0 in the regular season, and 7-0 in ODAC play. After they played the Wasps, the Generals beat Virginia Wesleyan and Guilford 9-0 each. W&L has shut out every ODAC opponent they have played so far.

For the Wasps, they fell to 2-4, and 0-1 in conference play. Their next match will take place on March 17th, as they will face LaGrange in Lookout Mountain, GA, and will travel to play Covenant at Covenant the next day. Their next ODAC match will be on March 25, as they will face Roanoke College at home.
