The Emory & Henry baseball team was able to win 2 of 3 on Feb. 24-25 from Johnson University in a 3 game series. The series started on Friday with a full 9 inning game.
The Wasps would get on the board first in game one, going up 1-0 after the first inning. In the third inning, Johnson answered back with a solo homerun to even things up. In the bottom of the inning sophomore Gavin Felty erupted, as he tripled down the right field line, bringing home two runs.
E&H would keep pouring on the runs, as they would run away with the victory, by a final score of 13-5. Felty led the way for the Wasps, as he went 3 for 4, with 3 runs and 2 RBIs. Sophomore Kodi Mcllwraith also chipped in with 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Senior Nick Lesnak picked up the victory for the Wasps, allowing 1 run on 5 hits, in 5 innings pitched. Games two and three were played Saturday, as part of a pair of two 7 inning games. Game two was a tough one for the Wasps. Johnson got on the board early, plating 4 runs over the first 4 innings. The Wasps would finally answer back in the bottom of the fourth. Junior Zach Smith hit a double, which got things going, as the Wasps would only trail 4-3 after the inning. Johnson would get 1 run back in the fifth inning but the Wasps would plate 3 more runners in the bottom half. The Royals would end up coming back and defeating the Wasps by a final score of 9-6. Sophomore Zach Shepherd took the loss on the mound for the Wasps, allowing 3 runs.
Game three would end up being a seven inning thriller, which had fans on the edge of their seats the entire game. The Royals would have a 3-0 lead over the Wasps after three innings. The Wasps were able to draw within a run after a sac-fly by Carson Bryant, as the Wasps trailed 3-2 after 5 innings. After 6 innings the Royals had a 6-3 lead, after a huge sixth inning, plating 3 runs. In the bottom of the seventh inning the Wasps would mount their comeback. After the Wasps got 1 run, an error led to 2 more runs and tie the ball game with two outs, as sophomore Lukas Hart stepped to the plate. Hart would hit a walk off single down the left field line, as the Wasps would defeat the Royals 7-6, and win the series. Felty pitched strong in 4 innings of work, while sophomore Logan Forster picked up the win for the Wasps.
The Wasps will be back in action this weekend, against Alfred State. Saturday will feature a double header consisting of 7 innings each game. On Sunday both teams will wrap up the series with a 9 inning game.
