In May, Emory & Henry’s choir and chamber choir will begin recording a joint album.
They will release it as a CD as well as a tracklist on Spotify. All of the songs on the album are related to love, including the song Tian Mi Mi which is a Mandarin Chinese piece written by Zhuang Nu. The title translates to “sweet as honey.”
The choir will also perform an Arabic piece, titled Lamma Bada Yatathanna, and Because of You, which is a song written in tribute to Apartheid.
Another song to be featured on the album is The Road Home, composed by Stephen Paulus. Paulus wrote over 600 works, premiering and performing all over the world. He died in October, 2014 from a stroke, but in 2016 he received a grammy for Best Contemporary Classical Composition. Paulus’ The Road Home will be performed as a solo by student and choir member Mariah Aultmon.
The idea of a choir album was first pitched in 2016, and the project is expected to be completed by the end of May this year. Many students are looking forward to the release.
Freshman Ron Miller, who is a member of chamber choir, says of the album, “the work the choir is doing is absolutely compelling and beautiful.”
