Emory & Henry Senior Jessica Richardson received the honor of being the ODAC Swimmer of the Week for the second time in her career. The last time she received this honor, it was her first-year in college. Now, as a senior, things have seemed to come full circle for her.
Richardson earned the title two weeks ago, in the Wasps’ last swim meet, which was also senior night. She had an outstanding night, walking out with wins in the 200 freestyle, part of winning 200 medley relay team, and topping it off with a school and personal record in the 100 back. She says that the 100 back has always been her favorite event.
One week prior to senior night, Richardson had set her own personal record with a time of 1:09.1. “Two weekends ago, I wasn’t going for it. This weekend, I was going for it,” she said.
This weekend, the swim team will compete in the ODAC championships. When asked about the honor in comparison to ODACs coming up, Richardson shared, “It was really cool. It was awesome going into ODACs. Everyone was swimming fast and we had a great senior night.”
Her goals for ODACs are to break both the 100 free and 100 back records. However, Richardson is more about her team. “Everyone just wants to swim fast. We want to see all of the hard work pay off,” she stated.
The Wasps will enter ODACs coming straight off of tapering workouts. Since they only have a team of ten (very small compared to the other teams) Richardson said they’d like to receive runner up.
