On Nov. 17-20, the Emory & Henry theatre department will be putting on Richard O’Brian’s cult-classic, The Rocky Horror Show. A fan-favorite, the musical follows couple Brad and Janet as they travel through Dr. Frank N’ Furter’s Transylvanian laboratory. E&H’s version of the musical is directed by Jeremiah Downes, and it is certain to be a treat.
Samuel Lamon, a Senior at E&H, will be playing the role of Riff Raff, Dr. Frank N’ Furter’s manservant. Lamon said that he is very proud of the show and its cast. “For a show that is incredibly athletic, fast paced, and vocally demanding, the process has been much easier than I expected due to Professor Downes’ great direction.” Lamon said. He also shared that the play will be a lot more like an “in-your-face glam rock concert” than the original.
Rebecca Johnston is a sophomore at E&H and the show’s light board operator. She said that the process has been “very long and hard,” but that the show is “going to be absolutely amazing.” Senior Will Spencer and the show’s stage manager says the finished product is “a truly amazing show that the whole school can be proud of.”
Lamon leaves us with the final verdict to come see the show: “With everything going on in this country right now, it would be good for people to sit back, relax, and forget about their troubles as we do the Time Warp again!”
The theatre department is also encouraging audience participation. This means that when it comes time for the Time Warp, if you feel like getting up and dancing there is nothing wrong with that at all. When it is appropriate to shout back at characters then do so, but only if it complements the show, but please do not disrupt the show. They are also encouraging those that wish to dress up, to do so. However, keep in mind that there will be adult language and content. The show is intended for mature audiences only and not for children. For more information on what is appropriate and what is not go to The Rocky Horror Show event page on Facebook or look for the The Rocky Horror Show on the McGlothlin Center For The Arts page.
Come see E&H put on The Rocky Horror Show Thursday and Friday, Nov. 17-18, at 7:30 p.m., or Saturday, Nov. 19, at 2pm or midnight. Tickets will be $15 and admission is free for E&H students and employees.
