After finishing eighth in at the ODAC meet, which took place at Washington & Lee’s course, the Emory & Henry men’s cross country team traveled to Berry, Georgia for the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region Championships. The host of the meet was Berry College and the race took place on Clara Bowl Course. Overall, the men’s team finished 25th out of 29 teams.
The men’s race was their typical 8k course. Sophomore Austin Tolbert led the Wasps and posted a time of 28:11, finishing 97th in the race. Seniors Kevin Watts and Alex Cooper finished 2nd and 3rd for the Wasps with times of 28:36 and 29:40, respectively. Watts finished in 120th place overall, while Cooper finished in 159th place. Sophomore Zane Moran came in fourth on the team while running a time of 30:31. Senior Jackson Feezell rounded out the top five for the Wasps posting a time of 30:36. For the three seniors, this meet marked the end of their college cross country careers.
The program has come a long way because of the leadership of the three seniors, Jackson Feezell, Kevin Watts, and Alex Cooper and recent graduate Nathan Fishell. The three seniors this year and Fishell made sure that they approached every single day with the excellence required for their sport. The team also performed well while these three were here. Last year, the team finished as Academic All Americans. This reward is for teams that have a cumulative 3.30 GPA. The team as a whole, because of these three, in the past four years have personified the idea of a “student-athlete.” You could not ask for much more from these three men or any student athletes.
