The women’s soccer team traveled to Ashland last Saturday, Oct. 22, to take on the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon. Both teams came into the game coming off of losses, with Randolph beating R-MC 1-0, and Roanoke beating Emory & Henry 6-0. On Saturday, the Yellow Jackets beat the Wasps 3-0 on Randolph-Macon’s Senior Day.
It was a tough day for the Wasps’ offense, as they were only able to fire four shots at the goal, and one shot being on goal. The four Wasps that were able to get a shot on goal were Sophomore midfielder Robbi Rodermann, first-year forward Ashley Love, Junior Midfielder Christina Ameen, and Sophomore midfielder Gillian Hogg. Christina Ameen’s shot on goal was the only shot on goal for the Wasps. Sophomore goal keeper Kieran Liseski made 10 saves on 13 shots with a save percentage of .769%.
R-MC’s first goal came early in the game, as it was first-year Abbie Winkelmann’s shot curled in from the left box three minutes into the game. That was the only goal in the first half. The next goal came from Senior Lauren Orga off an assist from Senior Ellie Linkous 68:15 into the game. R-MC’s third and final goal came from Sophomore Jaimie Brown off a header from from first-year Hannah Harris at the 79:30 mark.
R-MC fired 21 shots at the goal, with 13 of those shots on goal. Ellie Linkous led the Yellow Jackets with 4 shots on her senior day. Lauren Orga, Kasey Booth, and Abbie Winkelmann all fired three shots at the goal for the Yellow Jackets. First-year Gabby Nelson fired two shots at the net. Kasey Martino, Lexi Mallory, Jaimie Brown, Hannah Harris, Mary Virginia Kelley, and Courtney Taylor fired one shot at the goal for R-MC. Four Yellow Jackets led the way with two shots on goal. They were Abbie Winkelmann, Lauren Orga, Gabby Nelson, and Ellie Linkous.
After the game, E&H fell to 4-12 and 1-7 in ODAC play. R-MC improved to 5-6-3 and 4-3-1 in ODAC play.
Both teams will finish up the year by hosting Washington and Lee, and traveling to Guilford. The next game for the Yellow Jackets will be on Oct. 26, as they will host W&L in their final home game of the regular season, and they will finish their regular season on the road at Guilford on Oct. 29.
E&H’s next game will be on the road as they will travel to Guilford on Oct. 26, and will host W&L on Oct. 29 on their Senior Day.
Coming down the final stretch of the regular season, E&H currently sits in 11th place in ODAC, their next opponent Guilford is currently in 10th place, and W&L is currently in 2nd place. Shenandoah currently sits in first place in ODAC with a 7-1 record.
