This past weekend, the Emory & Henry College Intermont Equestrian Team competed in a doubleheader on Saturday, Oct.22 and Sunday. Oct. 23. The E&H IHSA Team earned a team champion finish and reserve champion honors at High Point University’s IHSA doubleheader this past weekend. For Saturday’s competition, the team tied for second place with 40 points. On top of that second place finish, the team won Sunday’s competition with a total of 45 points. Over the two-day competition, the Wasps posted 18 wins and 10 second-place finishes. The winning Wasps for Saturday consisted of many different riders. Senior Nick Martino won his class in Open Equitation on the Flat. Junior Billie Henard won both the Intermediate on the Flat and Novice Over Fences. Also, first-year Kelsey Bergman won her Walk and Trot class. Martino was recognized as the High Point Rider of the Day. As a team, the Wasps tied with Virginia Tech to earn the honor of reserve champion. Sunday was another successful day for the Wasps. E&H dominated competition. Out of 19 total rides, the Wasps claimed the champion’s honor in 12 of them. Martino was once again a winner, winning Open on the Flat. The Wasps swept the Intermediate Over Fences competition with wins by Madison McKinsey, Maddie Bonner, and Kira Boerst. Another Wasps’ trio, that of Jo Adsit, Michalea Glenn, and Emily Trice, each won their class and swept the Novice on the Flat competition. First-year Kelsey Bergman was also victorious on Sunday, winning the Walk and Trot competition again. The competition this past weekend marked the end of the IHSA competition for the fall semester. The next IHSA show will be a doubleheader hosted by E&H on the weekend of Feb. 4-5. However, the IHSA will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3 in the second of four Tournament of Champions Series events. This event will take place at Ohio State University.
