The Emory & Henry College Marching Band hosted a ceremony for the opening of their new band building on Sat. Oct. 8, 2016. The band building is located across from the Brooks Field House on campus.
The building is equipped with rehearsal space, storage for instruments and changing rooms. The building is also decorated with the E&H Marching Band logo at the entrance and on the back wall above the changing rooms.
“The building is a tribute to the hard work of our students in developing the marching band and the commitment of the College to provide a truly first-class experience for our students,” said Dr. Matthew Frederick, the director of the E&H Marching Band.
During the ceremony, Band Director Dr. Matthew Frederick, Drum Major Sean Collier, and E&H College’s President Jake Schrum spoke about the marching band and how it is attracting prospective students who want to further their music studies. They also addressed students who were in marching band in high school and want to participate on the college level.
E&H Marching Band is the only marching band in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, and the only college band in Southwest Virginia who has their own building. The band also received their new uniforms last week and performed both the pre-game and halftime show in them.
