This year, the Emory & Henry Marching Band helped work the 64th Annual Apple Festival Band Competition. The Chilhowie Band Boosters, Chilhowie High School and Emory & Henry College all sponsored the Apple Festival Band Competition.
The day started off with Group A I schools, and gradually moved up to the bigger bands. The biggest bands featured over 100 members. Over 20 bands were in attendance on Saturday to compete for the prestigious Pat Miller Championship Cup.
There were many local bands that performed at the 64th Annual Apple Festival Band Competition, including Patrick Henry High School, Abingdon High School and Marion Senior High School. Spectators, band students and music educators from Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee attended the Apple Festival Band Competition.
The E&H Marching Band Students helped with parking and guiding bands during the day leading up to the performance. The E&H Marching Band, which is currently made up of 75 students, took the field in exhibition after Chilhowie High School’s Marching Band performed.
The E&H Marching Band performed both the pre-game show and the halftime show, which includes music from the hit Broadway show and movie “Rock of Ages.” Certain students who are members of the E&H Marching Band helped recruit prospective students who are interested in attending E&H and being a part of the Marching Band.
