Members of Emory & Henry faculty and staff, including President John Wells, will attend a special town hall meeting of the Student Government Association (SGA) in the Calliopean Room in Byars Hall on Feb. 2 at 7:00 p.m.

The SGA is welcoming anyE&H student to attend the meeting.

A full list of E&H faculty and staff slated to attend the meeting includes: Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives Ryan Bowyer, Dean of Students Tracey Wright, Assistant Professor of Education Dr. Sandy Frederick, Grant Project Manager Carly Gaskins, Dean of Student Success Travis Proffitt, and New Student Experience Director Fred George.

“This event is being held because the SGA requested that an event take place where administration hears our concerns and suggestions,” Student Body President Jaynae Wright said.

Furthermore, Wright feels this meeting will be beneficial to attend because some administrative-level faculty and staff members often cannot witness or hear the daily struggles of students in the community.

“It is important because even though President Wells and other staff care about students, they are not always very familiar with what students’ actual day to day struggles are,” Wright added. “What may seem like an obvious solution and allocation of resources from their end may not be how the students feel that a situation may best be addressed.”

Additionally, the SGA feels this meeting will be beneficial to students based upon the most recent town hall meeting.

“From the last town hall, which President Wells was not able to attend, came some amazing ideas that myself and my cabinet, and hopefully soon the SGA at large, are working to actually bring to fruition,” Wright said.
