Calvin Joyner recently transitioned from his role at Winthrop University to be the Director of Student Activities at Emory & Henry College.

Joyner feels that this new position comes with opportunities to enhance the overall student experience at E&H.

“I want my position to be known as the Director of Fun rather than just the Director of Student Activities,” Joyer said. “I want to come up with more innovative ways to bring fun to campus.”

So far at E&H, Joyner himself has benefited from being part of the campus community.

“It has been fantastic,” he said, “and everyone has been very helpful in showing me how to grow and learn more about campus.”

Samantha Lopez, Director of Housing and Residence Life, was part of the group that was tasked to fill the student activities position back in February.

“During this process, we found Calvin Joyner, who we thought would bring new energy and more dedication to E&H,” Lopez said. “He brings new programs and more support for students on campus, and is already a part of the family.”

Joyner feels especially grateful to Lopez, in turn, for the foundation she left behind for Greek life organizations in her previous role as Greek life coordinator. In fact, Calvin has already enhanced those foundations that she built up through excel sheets, the judicial board, and stronger recruitment numbers.

“There have never been so many events and activities for students,” Lopez added. “Calvin is already doing an awesome job allowing students to have more fun while bringing together diverse events for all to enjoy.”

In addition to Greek life receiving positive changes from Joyner joining E&H, the Student Government Association (SGA) has been impacted, as well.

“Calvin always brings a breath of fresh air and 100% energy,” Jaynae Wright, a third-year student and SGA president, said. “He attends every meeting, and we have never had an advisor who shows up that frequently. … He brings a new perspective, asks good questions, and brings great solutions and unification to SGA.”

“You cannot thank SGA without thanking Calvin,” Wright added. “He is integral to the group, and I adore him. He brings ideas for students that students don’t, and he is changing E&H for the better.”

Joyner has compiled a calendar of events for the fall semester, which will be regularly updated. This calendar was sent to students via email, but can also be accessed through this link: Student Activities Calendar.
