On Wednesday, April 14, a vaccination clinic will be set up on campus at the McGlothlin Center for the Arts from noon to 3:00 p.m, working with the Virginia Department of Health.

The announcement was made in an email from Dean Ryan Bowyer on Tuesday, April 6.

This clinic will distribute the first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. A second clinic has been planned for Wednesday, May 5 for the second shot.

Dean Bowyer emphasized the impact of this clinic on college life.

“Vaccinations are the quickest way we fully open campus up and return to some level of normal,” a quote from the email stated.

He also noted that if a person is fully vaccinated, they will no longer have to quarantine if they come into contact with a COVID-19-positive person.

Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) state that with any of the three vaccines, a person is not considered fully vaccinated until two weeks after their final dose of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or until two weeks after their single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. It also states that adequate facial coverings and social distancing should still be utilized by all vaccinated individuals.

Any member of the college community — all students, faculty, and staff — are eligible to receive a free vaccination at this one-day clinic, but must register in advance with a link in the email provided by Dean Bowyer.

Questions or concerns about the clinic or vaccination can be addressed to Dean Bowyer via email.

Correction: (April 15, 2021)

An earlier version of this article stated that the clinic was provided with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. As the CDC has put a pause on distribution of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the college will instead have the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine
